Quebec and the province of Saskatchewan could contain significant quantities of hydrogen underground. Good news for the country who wants to export hydrogen in the future.
Max Power Mining, a company based in Canada and supported by several partners, has identified an area that could be the largest concentration of natural hydrogen. Located in the southeast of the province of Saskatchewan, near the border with Montana and North Dakota in the USA, it is called the Rider Natural Hydrogen Project. Initially covering 1 km², the research area has been tripled. It now covers 244 km². At the outlet, the highest hydrogen concentration points reach between 75,6 and 96,4%.
“What our team of natural hydrogen experts has discovered is truly remarkable in terms of historical data and geological context.
This places Saskatchewan in a very favourable position for the discovery of the first "deposits" or accumulations of natural hydrogen gas in North America," comments Rav Mlait, CEO of Max Power Mining.
