Le Ministry of Mines and Energy proposed new regulations aimed at facilitating the exploration and exploitation of natural geological hydrogen in the country.
According to this draft regulation, companies will be able to submit applications for the right to explore areas of interest of up to 800 square kilometers in search of potential natural hydrogen deposits. The government will then select developers based on the quality of their technical proposals.
These proposals must specify, in particular:
- the duration of the project;
- the location of the exploration area;
- the potential economic value of exploration work;
- as well as the technical aspects related to the research and evaluation of natural hydrogen resources.
This initiative makes the Colombia one of the first countries to put in place a regulatory framework specifically for the exploration of natural hydrogen, a sign of the growing interest of governments in this new energy resource.
