Colombia confirms its first discovery of white hydrogen, with significant underground concentrations identified in the Cordillera Oriental and Sinú-San Jacinto basins.
With a recorded level of 36 ppm in a well, the government is considering a path towards clean energy leadership in Latin America and is already preparing a regulatory framework for commercial exploration.
"This [discovery] confirms that Colombia has the potential to become a regional leader in clean energy," said Energy Minister Edwin Palma. Natural hydrogen can transform our energy matrix, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and bring development to historically neglected regions.”
The Ministry of Energy and the ANH are continuing the study of geological formations in order to assess the commercial viability of deposits.
